Post-Secondary EducationThe establishment of CAMET in 2004 represented the first time that departments responsible for post-secondary education had a formal structure to address common issues and to undertake regional initiatives in post-secondary education in a coordinated manner. Since 2004, some of the most notable post-secondary education initiatives included a strategy to engage the federal government in infrastructure renewal, research on student retention and mobility and follow-up surveys on graduate studies. Building on these successes, the 2009-2012 Strategic Direction in post-secondary education provides the impetus for ministers of education and training to expand their agenda to include post-secondary education enrolment, quality assurance and skilled trades. Ministers responsible for post-secondary education are focusing their attention to initiatives designed to lead and improve the quality of the region’s post-secondary institutions driven by the following guiding principles:
